The Pharyngula mutating genre meme

by Beth Terry

Uh oh. I got caught by another of these viral memes.

[see details below]

My great- great- great- grandparent is Pharyngula
My great- great- grandparent is Metamagician and the Hellfire Club.
My great- grandparent is Sentient Developments .
My grandparent is Open the Future.
My parent is Green LA Girl.

1. The best sexy concert in rock is…
The Cat Empire’s Two Shoes Tour

2. The best cult blog in weird fiction is…
ChuckPahlaniuk.net

3. The best tap-shoe percussion CD in workout music is Tilly and The Wall’s Bottoms of Barrels

I shall attempt to disseminate my seed to:

100th Monkey
Tinky McFrog
Greta Christina
Bring Your Own
Bean Sprouts

We’ll see if any of them pass it on. I’m not making much of an effort to let them know about this because as a non-breeder, I don’t care much about spreading my own genes.

And I haven’t followed the rules exactly. But isn’t that just what happens with random mutations?

——
There are a set of questions below that are all of the form, “The best [subgenre] [medium] in [genre] is …”.

Copy the questions, and before answering them, you may modify them in a limited way, carrying out no more than two of these operations:

*You can leave them exactly as is.

*You can delete any one question.

*You can mutate either the genre, medium, or subgenre of any one question. For instance, you could change “The best time travel novel in SF/Fantasy is…” to “The best time travel novel in Westerns is…”, or “The best time travel movie in SF/Fantasy is…:, or “The best romance novel in SF/Fantasy is…”.

*You can add a completely new question of your choice to the end of the list, as long as it is still in the form “The best [subgenre] [medium] in [genre] is…”.

You must have at least one question in your set, or you’ve gone extinct, and you must be able to answer it yourself, or you’re not viable.

Then answer your possibly mutant set of questions. Please do include a link back to the “parent” blog you got them from, e.g. Metamagician and the Hellfire Club to simplify tracing the ancestry, and include these instructions.

Finally, pass it along to any number of your fellow bloggers. Remember, though, your success as a Darwinian replicator is going to be measured by the propagation of your variants, which is going to be a function of both the interest your well-honed questions generate and the number of successful attempts at reproducing them.

  4. Thanks for nominating me but I don’t tend to participate in memes unless they are relevant to my blog topic. I think this particular meme is likely to spread best among geek personal blogs, like the science blog it started at. Non-geeks are unlikely to understand it and non-personal blogs will usually find it irrelevant to them.

Tell me what you're thinking...

By the way, the comment spammers are out in full force, so I've added some pretty tough Spam Blockers. If for some reason, your comment is rejected (and you'll know because a screen will pop up telling you your comment has been rejected) and if you are a real person and not a spammer, then please email me at beth [at] myplasticfreelife [dot] com and let me know. I'll add you to my white list.
