The Archive Meme (Killing time while awaiting election returns)

Another day, another meme. This one is kinda cool because it’s a way to go back through previous posts and revisit some favorites. Burbanmom tagged me for this one. If you haven’t visited her site, you should. She proves that being “green” can be not only fun but also funny as hell. Anyway, here’s my trip through the dark, cobwebby halls of my own archives. Enjoy.

First, the Archive Meme Instructions: Go back through your archives and post the links to your five favorite blog posts that you’ve written. … but there is a catch:

Link 1 must be about family.
Link 2 must be about friends.
Link 3 must be about yourself, who you are… what you’re all about.
Link 4 must be about something you love.
Link 5 can be anything you choose.

I think this is a great way to circulate some of the great older posts everyone has written, return to a few great places in our memories and also learn a little something about ourselves and each other that we may not know. Post your five links and then tag five other people. At least TWO of the people you tag must be *newer acquaintances so that you get to know each other better….and don’t forget to read the archive posts and leave comments!

Link 1 – Family – Some things about Hawai‘i that have little to do with plastic. This post is fairly recent, but I think it’s the best one about my family. According to my sister, it gave her a lump in her throat and made my dad cry, in a good way I hope. At any rate it’s nicer than the one I wrote about all the plastic in their kitchen in Maryland! (Okay, I just cheated, didn’t I?)

Link 2 – Friends – Like Burbanmom, I don’t really post about my human friends much either. So I’ll submit Kitty Love, by Soots & Arya, written by a couple of my new furry friends.

Link 3 – Me – The best post about who I am and why I write this blog is Tales of an on-again off-again activist, which I’ve also included in my blog FAQ.

Link 4 – Something I Love – I love the post, I think we all do that sometimes, by my husband, Michael. He’s a “someone” rather than a “something,” but I love that he wrote this post and that he’s in my life and I get to hang out and play with him every day.

Link 5 – Free Choice – This one was easy for Burbanmom because she chose the moment that her blog started to sink into utter depravity. Fake Plastic Fish hasn’t gone there yet. But just wait. Next week is Valentine’s Day, and I’m toying with the idea of two posts: one naughty and one downright controversial. Do I have your attention now? Well, you’ll have to come back and see if I follow through.

For now, I’m going all the way back to July and dredging up the post, Flushing Plastic Down The Drain, because discovering this plastic hiding place really freaked me out at the time, and it’s worth sharing again with a wider audience.

And now I’m tagging:

It’s A Green, Green, Green, Green World
Life Less Plastic
Low Impact Home
Avoiding Plastic – One Purchase At A Time
Long Live The Village Green

A couple of these blogs are very new and don’t have many posts yet, so this will be a challenge for them to come up with creative interpretations of these questions. But this is one way for me to get their names out to you. Check them out!

A Note about leaving comments: I switched to the LifeFyre comment system because it weeds out the hundreds of spam comments I was getting each day and also allows us to respond to individual comments, to "Like" comments, and to link them to social media if we so desire. But if you do not wish to login via social media, you don't have to. You can comment without logging in! Here's how:

  1. Type your comment in the box.
  2. Click "Post Comment As" button.
  3. When the LiveFyre box pops up, type a name, email address, and optional website address in the fields provided.
  4. Click Next.
  5. LiveFyre will ask you for a user name and password. But if you don't want to register or use a password, you don't have to. Just click "Post as Guest" which is to the left of the black "Finish" button. Your comment will be saved.
  6. Please email me if you have questions or problems. This new system is supposed to make it easier for all of us to converse, not harder.

Hey Beth. Thanks for the tag. It may take me a couple of days to get to it, but I'm excited to cull through my archives! It was great to stroll down your memory lane with you and I'm looking forward to seeing what others come up with as well.
