I just discovered you and your site. We are based in Marin and working hard to get plastics out of our waste stream. You are incredible! Thank you for doing what you do.

You would be glad to hear that a new Ice Cream Store in San Francisco will be using our Clean Conscience aprons made of 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles… Lulu’s Ice Cream. This used a total of about 175 recycled plastic bottles that would have sat in landfills for centuries!
Recycling is such a critical aspect to our daily living and there are more ways to upcycle trash now to convert them into new and usable products.

Today, I was shopping in Urban Outfitters (I know, I know, it’s kind of poser, but they have a lot of cotton dresses I like that I can afford). Anyway, I was paying for my dress, and there was another salesperson taking a razorblade and ripping a pair of suede boots (think $100 price range). I looked at her incredulously.

“What are you doing?”

–”Well – this a pair of 8′s and 8 1/2′s, so we can’t sell it.

“Are you kidding? You’re shredding perfectly good boots? But – some people have feet with those sizes…you know, you could sell them still” (I happen to have feet that are slightly different sizes, and sometimes shoe stores sell them as is and they’re perfect for me!)

–Company policy.

And she shrugs and walks away. I was disgusted. A letter will be written tonight to Urban Outfitters – I am not a happy camper about this. What an example of waste of a beautiful pair of shoes…
