I’ve been stopping by your blog for a few months now, and I thought I’d leave a few comments.

First, I’m really impressed with your graciousness toward those who aren’t as committed as you. I especially loved the post about the plastic birthday heart. A lovely comment in this age of shrill.

I’m not anywhere as anti-plastic as you are. (I’m about thirty miles from the big fly ash spill in East Tennessee, I swam in a lake full of PCB’s as a kid, and I’ve spent most of my professional life in asbestos filled buildings. I figure I’m already screwed.) My thing is waste: I can’t throw stuff out if it could still be used again. I have always washed my zip top bags. (A zip top bag drying tip: put a magnet inside the freshly washed bag, turn the bag upside down, and stick it to the fridge. Put a towel on the floor in front of the fridge to catch the drips. The heat that the fridge gives off will dry the bags very quickly.) I use pyrex/anchor hocking for almost all of my fridge storage, but a baggie here and there always seems to sneak in.

The hubster is so enamored of the neatness of the containerized fridge that he wants me to buy containers for all the freezer items as well. This brings me to my next challenge. I’d like to find some small (toaster-size) stainless steel bakeware so that I can make lasagna/casseroles for two, freeze them, and then pop them straight in the oven without defrosting. (Pyrex would not work for this obviously.) I’ve found aluminum with a non stick surface (grr.) and plain aluminum, but I’d prefer stainless. I’ve used the disposable aluminum pans in the past, but they are a pain to clean. Since you seem to be on a parallel quest, I thought you might have run across something like this.

I think it’s sad how many people don’t try things like that because they’re nervous about sounding/looking bad — but that’s why you get lessons, to improve!

I never thought I’d ever get my husband to join me in chorus because he had never done anything like that at all. Even in school, he was never into group activities or performance/creative activities. But he tagged along enough to my practices I guess and decided to take the leap. I’m still so very proud of him and he really enjoys it — even more than I thought he would.

Plus, it makes a great and rather cheap “date” ever week.
