On the topic of the oceans…in the latest issue of the Nature Conservancy Magazine is a piece about the whale shark. It feeds by filtering plankton and small fish through its gills where sharp tooth-like things called denticles snag food.

As we’ve seen from what the Alguita hauled in, there is lots of plastic debris out there. Well, the article says the whale shark can filter 400,000 gallons of water AN HOUR when feeding. A bathtub, to bring it home, holds about 45 gallons…so that’s one animal taking in 9000 bathtubs of water/hour. To visualize – 9000 tubs end to end would cover 8.5 miles (ohhh, I love math). I wonder what a gill inspection might reveal. Whale sharks might compete with the albatross as a poster animal for the ocean plastic problem.

I have the DVD, too. I was also bummed the Earth Cinema Circle went defunct.

I did wear blue today, not that anyone in Wisconsin knew what it was for.
I just want to say that I think the takeout without is an awesome campaign!
