Think we can't live without plastic? Think again. In 2007 I committed to stop buying any new plastic & I've almost succeeded! Won't you join me? Let's see what plastic-free looks like in 2012... for the health of our bodies, our oceans, our planet. ~Beth Terry

thanks for this great interview. My husband uses The Story of Stuff every year with his high school students, (they also read some of the criticism) and it inspires the kids as much as it did us. I especially like what you both had to say about how personal change inevitably leads to larger changes because we find the places where things need to be pushed.

What a wonderful interview!

I saw Annie present the video a little before it was released at a great conference in DC. My whole family loves it and has sent it around to everyone we know. We've found it especially effective with fairly young children. (Our Transition Town initiative is planning a showing for the youngsters while the old folks have our next meeting.)

Oh. Oh my, yes. BRILLIANT interview. Bravo!

The Story of Stuff changed my life in a very real way, but I've lost touch with the ideals and ideas it inspired for me. This interview is so invigorating and motivating.

And wow. Community. Never would have thought about it in this perspective, but it's totally, totally true.

Off to brainstorm . . .

Andrea, I just left a comment on your blog about feeling guilty. I recommend you reread the section above called "Scolding and Guilt." She says that instead of feeling guilty for our "slip ups" we should celebrate the positive changes we do make.

And then I recommend you turn up your stereo and create a little noise pollution. Not at 4am, of course. And preferably when no one else is home. :-)

Consumerism build this country, so if we chop it down, its going to take a while to biodegrade. Some things have real value. I love playing my backgammon games with family and friends and that's not a waste. But alas many of my other things are-r-r-r-r. So the first step is to admit you have a problem....my name is Jimmy and I have a lot of stuff. (2 storage lockers/now 1 storage locker and my garage). Whew! That felt better.
