Giving away a pair of Feelgoodz natural plastic-free flip flops

10/10/2010 Update: The winner of the Feelgoodz natural rubber flip flops is Tread Lightly.  Congratulations!

I need new flip flops. Seriously. I haven’t bought a new pair of shoes since I stopped buying new plastic three years ago, and this summer, I’ve been walking around on worn down foam Teva’s that look like this:

worn down Teva flip flops

Any podiatrist worth his/her degree would be appalled.

So anyway, I needed new flip flops, and I remembered that Lisa from Condo Blues had worn a pair of natural rubber FeelGoodz flip flops to the Blogher conference last year and loved them. Read her review of Feelgoodz here. So I wrote to the company and asked for a pair to review on Fake Plastic Fish.

The shoes were sent in a plain cardboard box without any additional packaging.

Feelgoodz flip flops

Feelgoodz flip flops

The flip flops come in all different colors, but I chose black for the sake of versatility. I’m not a big shoe collector, like many women are.

Feelgoodz flip flops

About Feelgoodz Flip Flops:

1) Made from 100% natural rubber. (If you are allergic to latex, you will not be able to wear these shoes.)
2) Biodegradable. According to the company, once they wear out, you could bury them in a hole in your backyard, and they would eventually biodegrade, unlike plastic foam flip flops.
3) Recycling program. If you’d rather not dig a hole in your yard, you can actually send back your flip flops to Feelgoodz for inclusion in the Soles4Soles recycling program.
4) Made in Thailand.
5) Naturally dyed.

The Giveaway

The Giveaway:  1 pair women’s size 7-9 black flip flops.  Why?  Because sadly, they don’t fit my crazy messed up wide, flat feet.  Compared to my Tevas, Feelgoodz are much narrower.  I would imagine they will fit the majority of feet just fine.  But if your feet are particularly wide like mine, they probably won’t.  Why not send a message to the company asking for some wider sizes?

To enter the giveaway, please leave a comment below describing what you like about your feet.  I’m serious.  Even if you think you hate your feet, to enter, you have to find one thing you like.

Buy some Flip Flops

I realize it’s the end of the summer, but right now, Feelgoodz is offering $5 off any online purchase if you use the coupon code CHANGE.

I love my feet because they take a lickin’ and keep on tickin’. Seriously. You would not believe what a beating they’ve taken lately, and I can still walk (run, even!).

Did you do the giveaway yet, Beth? Just in case you haven’t, I’ll tell you what I like about my feet. I have a really high arch so when my feet are wet, I have a lovely foot print. :)

I like my feet because they allow me to enjoy my hobbies — running, hiking, photography, and walking at the beach! Most of the time, they get me where I need to go without any aches or pains and I’m able to enjoy some of the simpler things in life — the feel of sand between my toes, the cool grass, and my nice clean carpet. :)

I like my feet because they are soft and smooth. The toes are not weird looking except maybe the big toes which are a little too wide for my taste. They are pale and clean and don’t build up much odor. They always get me where I need to go and never are in much pain. I love them!

I used to hate my ginormous feet when I was a size 9 in 4th grade but then someone pointed out that it was simply a strong foundation for my growing body. It seemed ok after that. I have grown into my feet and actually love to show them off, which I can do year round here in Florida. I recently purchased a pair of Feelgoodz and honestly believe they are the most comfortable flipflops in the history of flipflops.

What do I like about my feet? Having all of my toenails! I’ve met a few people who have lost the toenails on the pinky toes and that has always creeped me out.

Guest

I like my feet because they are so unsightly! My toes are bony, my second toe is longer then my big toe, my pinky toes are genetically blessed and curl in. I have a tan line from some shoes – everything on my foot is tan BUT my toes! It’s kinda scary! But I don’t care, because they are the only feet I’ve got, and they work pretty dang well. :)

I like my feet because even after all the abuse I subject them to (go barefoot a lot) they keep me moving forward :)

Guest
4 years 11 months ago

I actually love my feet. Even the one that I sadly broke on Thursday. I’ve even grown to love my little pinky toes that curl towards the other toes as if they were trying to hide.

I like shoes but I am picky, and mostly prefer to go barefoot or in sandals so that I can show off my lovely feet.

Thanks for the chance!

I like that my feet are narrow! I can’t always pick the shoes I want because of that but I like the look of narrow feet! Even if they look longer because of that ;o)

I’m like you, I have very few pair of shoes! And I don’t have any flip-flop!

I’m sure these flip-flop would fit my feet, thank you for the giveaway!

I love my feet. My feet are what take down the roads that I choose in life. I have created an amazing life with an amazing man. He is the love of my life. My passion is the environment. The forests the ocean all of it but the ocean is my favorite. I try to find out all the ways to make a difference & not such a big foot print on the earth. I am always on a lookout for products that are truly earth friendly & that from begining to end will end up back as part of the earth.

Love my feet. Not to big. Not to small. The toes go from big to small. I have v. flat feet though and they don’t make that cute high arch footprint on the wet sand but hey I don’t have any funky toes. Oh- and they didn’t grow a size in either of my pregnancies!

Guest
4 years 11 months ago

I love my feet because no matter what I’ve been through in life, my feet have always been there too, taking me places, walking the distance, and even a reminder to slow down when they ache at night, my feet have always been made fun of because of the size 9/10 but my feet have taken me further than those who have made fun of them!

Guest

I’m afraid that simply wearing flip flops for extended periods of time would make most podiatrists cringe. My husband convinced me to [almost entirely] give up my flip flops wearing ways a couple of years ago, and I don’t miss them.

Not entering the contest, but what do I love about my feet? I love that I can spread my toes wide and move them like toes are meant to move before they spend too much time crammed in shoes with un-foot-shaped toe boxes.

I like the way my feet are smaller versions of my beloved father’s. Strong, flexible and with good proportions. I let them pick up things and walk barefoot whenever it’s possible. And I treat my feet well. When they are happy, warm and in good condition, so is the rest of my body.

Guest

I don’ love my feet as much as all of you- I have a really big ugly mole on my left big toe and my toes are all gnarled and I have a sore that won’t heal on my left little toe.

But they are very long and narrow with high arches and would have been great for ballet if I had started young enough. Having long, narrow feet with high arches makes wearing heels a breeze even though I hardly ever get to wear them, so I do love that I can be perfectly comfortable walking around in pretty shoes that would torture most women.

I used to never wear flip flops before I started surfing, but now I live in them, so I wanted to enter the contest.

Beth- have you ever tried Simple? They have a great selection of eco-friendly shoes and I love them, they are made in China is the only thing, but they are comfortable, inexpensive and last forever. They used to have plastic free flip flops, they got discontinued but I think they still have some other plastic free options. Not sure if they will work as well for you because as I said I have narrow feet, but you might want to look.

The bottoms are calloused enough to make walking outside barefoot a breeze. They’re tough enough to slide across the mat at the dojo when I’m training. They take a pounding when I run, they provide a sturdy foundation on which to balance, they rarely ache and are still sensitive enough to appreciate the cold softness of bedsheets at night.

I wonder just how eco-friendly these straw sandals from Vera Bradley are? They’re also on sale at Amazon.

Then there’s the grass sandals from Indonesia:

Than, I’m thinking you could try making your own Zoori! These are worn by traditional Japanese more than 200 years ago. However, recently they have gained back the popularity in Japan, but this time round, the sandals are all made with variety of fabrics such as using old T-shirts, bed sheets, mops and other recycled materials. They are not only environmentally friendly. They are comfortable to wear indoor, because of the ups and downs weaving patterns, they promote health as the patterns act as massaging points for the sole.

My feet are strong and hold me steady during my 7 hours of work (on my feet the entire time) and then thru my chores with chicken, canning and food. LOVE my feet. Wish I had a wonderful pair of Feelgoodz plastic-free flip-flops to reward them with at the end of a long day.

My feet are slim & slender & I have a small tattoo on one toe. My toes are long so I can peel a banana with them (honestly!) They don´t like high heels & tell me so, but that´s ok, I don´t like them much either.

I to have not had new sandals in two years, for the same reasons as you.

I like that my feet are well-proportioned and slender. I am always looking for flip-flops that are more environmentally responsible, as well as made in reasonable conditions for the workers, so I think this is a great giveaway. Cheap sandals that aren’t designed to last and that people toss into the trash without a second thought (because they are so cheap) flood the market.

Guest
4 years 11 months ago

I like that my toes. They are very even along the top. Maybe it’s weird, but I find that reasonably attractive.

Also, right now I like that I have size 8 feet, which means these flip-flops will totally work for me. :)

what i like about my feet:

1) they get me where i want to go and have walked all over the world
2) they know they’re pretty but don’t generally care – shoes want to show themselves off on them, but only if i can keep them on long enough for the opportunity
3) when it’s time to put ’em up and relax, they let me know without beating around the bush
4) they are incredibly sensitive – some of my fondest memories involve my feet – in sand, in mud, in water, in hands…

Hiya, I’m Rupert the dog and I love my human’s feet!

With her feet she takes me for walks around the neighborhood and park where I get to catch up on the daily scent news.

With her feet she goes to the freezer to get a marrow bone for me to gnaw on (oh my they are good!).

With her feet she goes in the big rolling machine to buy my food.

And best of all! With her feet she plays with me and my favorite ball in the backyard. She feigns to kick the ball and tries to fake me out so I’ll head right when she’s really going to kick it left, but I’m a great soccer player don’t-you-know so she has to be sneaky to get it by me!

My human would love the shoes and I promise I won’t chew on them.

I love my feet even though they’re sick – I was just diagnosed with Morton’s Neuromas in both feet two weeks ago (OUCH). For the past year, I have transitioned away from the high heels that probably caused this problem and on to things like Crocs and flip flops and sexy orthopedic insoles. Rrowr. But I do love that since I stopped wearing [admittedly beautiful] foot torture devices, my toes have straightened out a lot. They also remind me of tiny monkey fingers. And they keep me from toppling over since they’re so important for balance. I bet FeelGoodz would be a great option for wearing after those painful alcohol injections the podiatrist has subjected me to. Also, as part of a year spent in Ireland, I have a shamrock tattooed to my right foot. It looks sort of silly, but I will never forget that time in my life.

My little toes have always been kind of small and curled up as have the toe nails. But they are unique and no one else has any like them. So I love them. Plus, my feet allow me to do some great yoga moves. They hold me up every day and they rarely ache. They are good feet.

Guest

My feet are small for my height. I remember spending an entire theater arts class in school with everything looking at my feet and how small they are. Well after a baby they went from a 6 to a 7! I love my feet though, because I can walk. My father died of a degenerative neuromuscular disease and was in a wheel chair for years. I love my feet because I am fortunate enough to be able to walk!

Guest

My feet… I like my feet because they are mine. They get me up in the morning, they make me move, they can stand me bouncing about on them, dancing around my kitchen trying not to burn food that I’m canning, and have taken their share of hot milk, nails, and fungus for the team. I like how they’re shoe deformed, but still pretty, I like how they’re big, and how they let me reach tall things. They tolerate me wanting to be a ballerina, even though they absolutely refuse to balance me on my tip-toes. They get me to work via car or bike. Without them, I am helpless and a severely unhappy woman.

I like my feet because they don’t match after a car accident where I almost had to have my left foot amputated. It’s ugly, doesn’t bend and is scarred up all over now. I call it my elephant foot, but it always reminds me that looks aren’t everything.

I love my feet! I think that they’re pretty and although I try to keep them well-groomed, I never ever paint my toenails with terrible, toxic nail polish. They don’t need it. They look more “mine” to me when they’re naked, anyway.

Muchos Gracias! Thanks for letting your readers (and me) where the shoes are made. I strive to reduce the plastic in my life, but feel that buying Chinese or Vietnamese or from any country that doesn’t allow basic human rights is wrong.

It’s thanks to you that I strive to lead a plastic free life (although it’s more like reducing plastic slowly). I recently started using the bulk bins and putting those items into glass jars. I reuse my spaghetti sauce, jelly, and pickle jars instead of buying mason jars. Don’t worry. I clean them.

I also recently looked around for a play pen for my son. Since I’m sure that many of your readers are moms, I thought that I’d let you know that Kettle makes a mostly wooden foldable play pen (Romanian made) and that Northern States Industries (US made) makes a wooden play yard and wooden play gates.

Wish I could be in the running for the shoes, but my foot’s a tad bit too small for the shoes. Best of luck to everybody else!

What I like about my feet: they are elegant and bony. ;) no, really. I like that. And I especially like the striped tan they get in the summer from wearing my 3-strap Birkenstocks. Hi, Beth! This is my first time commenting. Even though I’m not too crazy about shoes, I thought it would be a good opportunity to finally chime in along with all these other lovely folks with whom I follow your site so meticulously.
As far as my feet, I seriously dislike my toenails, but I do like that they a) are not dry at the bottom and b) they aren’t very veiny. Other than my nails, they looks okay in a pair of nice shoes. :)

Guest

I love my feet. I would like it if I, as a person, were more like my feet, in that my feet, unless injured:
*bear up the weight of my whole body without complaint
*are happy even when they are invisible to others
*never forget what it means to be grounded
*give me the stability I need to leap into action, jump at a chance, dive into life, or kick back and relax… and yet, somehow, are always there for me to land on once again when I need to.

We should all be as sturdy, strong, faithful, and modest as a good pair of feet!

There sure are a lot of folks who like their feet! I mostly haven’t like the way my feet look but am thankful they are healthy and carry me where I need to go. As the years have progressed I have come to appreciate the way they look. The older I get the more I see my father’s feet. I have worn flip flop all summer which is saying a lot since I used to never show my bare feet. Unfortunately my flip flops are Crocs which I’m sure are plastic but a friend bought them for me while I was in Hawaii. He said I needed shower shoes!! Anyway…

I love my feet… because they are my family’s feet! I have large feet, like most of the people in my family, but it goes way beyond that. We have really long toes, and no joke, we all have the same curly pinky toe. According to my mom, when I was born, they were trying to get a footprint and couldn’t get my toe to uncurl for the print. Being your normal, average 9 pound baby, I decided to make the process easier by screaming ;). And my dad was so exited we had the same feet, he took off his shoes and socks and showed everyone how his pinky toe curled under too! It’s kind of a family joke now….

And one of the biggest reason I love summer, is so I can wear flipflops and rest my feet from socks and restricting shoes! It feels so much better on your feet, don’t you think?

Oddly enough, I’ve always liked my feet. When the weather gets warm enough in Maryland to start wearing sandals, that’s all I wear. I get my tootsies spiffed up with a couple of new colors of polish that strike my fancy in the spring and out come the toes. Feet carry us around and people just let them go, literally and figuaratively. No calluses on these feet! and they do enjoy long lazy summer days of being in the sand at the beach. It’s their repayment for 10 months of constant standing on hard cement floors at school.

The thing I love about my feet is their potential to be recipients of a foot massage. Nothing is more rejuvenating or relaxing. As a scientific and pragmatic sort of person, I want to reject the notion of acupressure, but I’ve felt it work!
I grew up in San Diego and so spent a lot of time in flip flops. The weather isn’t as welcoming here (neither are the hipster fashion police), but I persist cause my feet demand the freedom.
Looks like maybe you could use a pair of sandals for supination?

I am obligated to enter this giveaway because my best friend gave me a pair of flip flops for my 20th birthday that I’m still wearing over 6 years later. They’re in horrendous shape and I feel almost gross wearing them out because they’re so old, and my friend keeps asking me why I haven’t bought a new pair yet. They still technically hold together on my feet so I haven’t felt an urgent need for new ones yet. :)

My husband always makes fun of my feet, but I think they are adorable! Like most people’s feet, my toes do not go evenly down in size from the big toe to the pinky toe, they are all basically even, so my feet are kind of square. Much more interesting if you ask me :) Of course, wearing pointy women’s shoes are a little difficult, but like you Beth, I am not a shoe horse. I guess we are just not “typical” women! Yay for us!!! Actually, it was one day I was looking at my feet, kinda tapping them together that I noticed my bunion which I have had removed via surgery years ago. Now they are even and square and just as adorable as ever!!!

I love my feet simply due to the fact that they have carried me through almost 42 years of life. They have not always done so without complaint or pain, but they HAVE done so!!!

Your giveaway has reminded me of that fact. I don’t think most of us think to be grateful for our feet. I never had until I thought, after your recommendation, WHAT is it that I like most about my feet? I realized that I could find physical attributes that I liked about my feet. For the most part they look fine & maybe even cute in a pair of sandals if I give them a little added attention. But then, I realized that even if that wasn’t so–even if there was absolutely nothing I physically liked about my feet–I should love them for all the wonderful–and some admittedly not so wonderful, beautiful–as well as not so beautiful places they have carried me in this life!

I actually have really pretty feet, lol. I would really love to win those nice flip flops! Here in So Cal I can wear them year round. Thanks, Beth!

The thing I like best about my feet?

They make wonderful kitten toys when I sneak a foot out from under the covers to cool off. Needless to say, I end up quite awake with my feet firmly tucked back under the covers… :)

I love the blisters on my feet. Weird, I know but they are well earned. We did a ton of hiking this summer and worked up to 18 miles in a day.

I love my feet because they are what takes me down lifes road and I’ve loved that life so far. I’m looking forward to where my feet take me next.

I hate to admit this but I’ve always liked my feet! Not too big; not too small. Toes nicely curve away, with the second one smaller than the big toe. Strong. Flexible. They have uncomplainingly carried me around for (almost) 50 years. Of all the parts of my body, I’ve never had problems with these babies!

Wish I could say the same thing about my waist… but we were commenting on feet, weren’t we? ;-)

my feet are giant (but that’s because I’m a giant), strong and I can use them to pick things up (well my toes and they are connected to my feet). It’s almost like hands.
