WHY Take the Challenge?

Most people are unaware that plastic is a huge issue, not just to our planet, but our health.
Our Planet: Plastic will NEVER break down. 2oz. of plastic will ALWAYS be 2oz. of plastic & can only be down-cycled / up-cycled so many times.

Our Health: When plastic is used for food or skin care containers, there are health concerns because plastic can leech, especially when warmed up,making even natural products become full of toxic chemicals, and therfore, no longer natural.

Get Informed! Be Part of the solution!

 Switch Ideas:

* Switch items with plastic material to more sustainable materials (glass, stainless steel, wood, clay, fabric, aluminum, etc.)
* Buy some re-usable stainless steel or glass water bottles instead of plastic ones.
* Buy some re-usuable stainless steel or glass food containers.
* Buy in BULK, taking your re-usable containers in to fill up.  I LOVE this bc I don’t have to transfer my bulk items to containers after I get home..I just unload from the car straight into the pantry…reduces time!

Feel free to switch as MANY things as you’d like (just don’t overwhelm yourselves!).

To keep the environment plastic free, I make my own laundry soap from ingredients sourced in cardboard boxes, and put the soap in a reusable container. :)

BethTerry yuki1 But why I didn’t think of that! It’s a wonderful idea! I just have to label them and find a place to store them. Thanks a lot!

There is no worries with my liquid soap, I buy it in bulk but I finally made the switch because I found soap bars without any perfume or essential oils. I also hope it will help my husband’s dry skin.

yuki1 Hi Yuki.  I can ask Malena from BALM! Baby if there is a way for people without Facebook accounts to participate.  I know several other people who are not on Facebook. At the bulk store, there are several things you could do.  First, of course, is to talk to the manager and explain why you want to use your own container and encourage them to change their policy.  But second, in the meantime, you could just keep reusing the same plastic bags.  Empty the contents into glass or metal as soon as you get home, and bring the bags… Read more »

I don’t think I will be participating, I don’t have facebook and I really don’t see what I could do more. But I just wanted to say that I’m really jealous of you people with bulk stores. A new bulk store has open where I live but they don’t accept that we use our own containers. They have these HUGE plastic bags, even for the spices! I will do something more though, just not before the end of the month. I will switch from liquid soap to bar soaps! Finally! I know I’m late. I already bought them but they… Read more »
