Heather while I strive to be as plastic free as possible, there are times I think plastic can be used and adult diapers are one area I have no problem with.
And in care facilities there are so many health related issues per human urine/feces that I think dispoable diapers are a godsend. And they tend to make clean up fast and the wearer more comfortable.

Hi Heather! Welcome and I hope you find as many answers (and questions!) on this great site as I do. Beth had a post awhile ago about this very issue, and there were a lot of comments and responses. You may not find the answer to the diaper issue, but you may find some information that may help. At the very least, you'll see how others question and deal with this, and might feel better about the situation. Good luck, and sorry about your mom. I know it must be hard. http://myplasticfreelife.com/2.....tic-waste/

Hi everyone. I am a first-time poster. Heard Beth on Michael Krasny's show, Forum (KQED in SF), and am so inspired reading her book. My first question is going to be about...adult diapers! My 90-year-old Mom has to take a medicine that, um, makes it hard to hold it, so we are using Depends lined with 2 sticky-back pads, changed 6-10 times a day. Is this too much detail?! Obviously, A LOT OF PLASTIC WASTE! She is in a care facility, and they need to be able to change her quickly and keep her dry so she can participate in mealtime, etc.

Multiply by all the seniors in similar circumstances...what to do? I was so glad when diapering my babies was over; now I confront the issue again. I can't use cloth diapers in this situation.

Any thoughts?
