Hi. In San Francisco, Rainbow Grocery sells miso in bulk and lets you bring your own container. But that is rare across the country.

I Googled and found miso in a glass jar here:

http://www.homenaturalsinc.com.....B0019LA7IE

I don't know how the company ships the miso -- what kind of packaging they use to keep the glass from breaking, so if you decide to order, you will probably want to write to them about the packaging first.

Also, this one seems super expensive. But I don't know how long miso lasts.

Hi Melody! I struggle with this one too. It's quite complicated from what I've read, involving something called koji, a fermented rice and about a month prep. Of course, trying to find the ingredients w/o plastic is another challenge. The best I've been able to do is buy miso in bulk (2 lb) at a local Asian grocery in the fridge section. Yeah, it comes in a plastic bag, but it lasts forever, like 6 months at least, so I'm consuming the least possible plastic I can. And I've replaced all those individual packets for instant miso soup by making my own! Justbento.com has loads of good recipes using miso, FYI.
