I am testing out the new forum but I wanted to mention the little farmers market in our town. They have been working to reduce waste. Instead of using plastic utensils and paper plates, they now have food vendors serving on reusable plates with metal washable silverware. I didn't see what they were using for beverages though so I will take a closer look next time. They have someone stationed by the recycling bins so that recycling is made easier and they hand out wicker baskets for people to fill and give them free (while they last) cloth bags to transfer their produce and purchases to. While there is still a long way to go, it is a start! I will have to try the wine vendors with my refillable cup to see if I have the same problem Beth did.

Wow.  That's cool.  Who cleans the utensils and dishes? How is that handled? And what farmers market is it?  Do they have a URL?

I am involved with the Montavilla Farmers Market.  We have had a program for the last 3 years called durable dish.  It's goal is to have a plastic free market.  Here is a link:

We are also trying to get rid of plastic bags at The Montavilla Farmers Market.  Here is a link about our loaner bag program.
