I wish I needed an extra umbrella. You can always try the thriftstores. I don't have a huge problem buying used plastic items since they have already been purchased by someone else. I'm with you, I really like nice umbrellas.

My umbrella broke beyond repair about a month ago. I've managed to either avoid the rain or wear a hooded rain jacket (which I tested in a downpour - definitely not waterproof, ugh) but it's getting unavoidable. So I'm without an umbrella or a functional rain jacket for the time being.

A quick search of the blog found a post about repairing an umbrella in 2009. What have you done for rain since then? If I HAD to choose I'd go with a rain coat that I can also use on my bike, but I'm an umbrella girl at heart (not even that, a collapsible umbrella that fits in my purse lover - a true fashion vs. ethics dilemma).

Google has shown me recycled umbrellas, biodegradable umbrellas, super expensive solutions, and plastic free umbrella components.

Ideas?
