I am puzzled as to why we don't have a huge public outcry about the long-term effects of plastics, which are indeed pervasive in our lives.  Are we in denial?  Is the petrochemical industry just too powerful?  Are we exhausted by our fight for clean food and clean air?  Are we seduced by cheap (for certainly plastics are that:  cheap)?

In researching for a post about new car smell (all plastic-derived, all bad news), I am struck by the deafening silence from the usual suspects:  greens, moms, the growing ranks of the chemically sensitive.  Apart from the occasional "Ack! New car smell gives me a headache!" very, very few are speaking out against being slowly poisoned in our private toxic cabins in which we spend more and more time.
