See my week 1 post :)
Danielle’s personal blog: http://itstartswithme-danielle.blogspot.com
Total items: 16
1 bag (from raw cashews)
1 organic turkey package
2 gardein packages
1 organic grape bag
2 plastic seals from ice cream*
3 local beer caps
3 produce ties
1 organic milk container
2 cap + pull tab from milk
*I realize that the ice cream containers are lined with plastic. However, I don’t include them in my tally because they immediately get thrown in my compost bin…. where I later fish the plastic out. (not a perfect solution, but for something we don’t buy but a few times a year… I’m ok with that.)
What items can I easily replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?
Raw cashews: I’ve had this bag for awhile… found it in my fridge (ooops!). I can get these in bulk.
What items would I be willing to give up if a plastic free alternative doesn’t exist?
What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?
Turkey: My daughter asks for deli turkey from time to time and I’m not buying non-organic.
Grapes: My kids love them. I only buy them USA grown and organic. It’s a small window that we get to have them.
Produce ties: Can’t find romaine (or any other head lettuces) without the ties.
Milk: Glass bottles are gone. My kids like milk and they won’t drink almond milk.
What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?
I’m going to start doing plastic-free food week once a month starting in August. :)
What one plastic item am I willing to give up or replace this week?
What other conclusions, if any, can I draw?
