What items can I easily replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?
Salad dressings: I make the majority of our salad dressings… but there are two that my kids love and I’m ok with that right now.
What items would I be willing to give up if a plastic free alternative doesn’t exist?
Listerine: We don’t buy this. When we went to the dentist in December, my kids were briefed about accepting the dentist’s handouts (plastic bag, toothpaste, dental floss). But, I didn’t know that they give kids a bottle of Listerine! My kids were so pumped about it and it wasn’t “single-use” so I let it be. We just went to the dentist this past June and my kids only left with a sticker and 3 travel toothbrushes :)
What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?
As usual, the produce.
Also, my daughter really loves cashew butter (ok… I like it better than peanut and almond butters, too). Wish it came without the plastic safety seal or that I could grind my own like I do peanut butter.
What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?
Let the salad dressings run out and focus on finding a homemade recipe that my two youngest love :)

I seem to stay consistent with around 17 pieces of plastic each week. Starting the 2nd week of August, I’m going to do a plastic free food week. I’ll plan on continuing it each month in hopes that it will help me move under 17 and give me some much needed focus to reduce the amount of plastics we use.
