Plastic Challenge: Ellen and Pedro, Week 5

Location:, Belgium

Name: Ellen and Pedro

Week: 5

Personal Info:

We are a two person and two cat household trying to reduce our footstep on our planet.

This week a special week since one of us was abroad for work. So the plastic trash posted is just for one person this time.

Ellen and Pedro’s personal blog:

List of plastic items REFUSED this week. (Yay!)
bag to pack vegetables and fruit
our cola now comes in cans
we found ketchup in a glass bottle instead of in a plastic bottle

Total items collected: 21

Total weight:

Items: Recyclable
2 tetrapack cream container
3 tetrapack soy milk

Items: Nonrecyclable
10 yogurt containers + lids
1 ice cream box
1 bag of breakfast cereal
2 sandwich spread containers
1 box from strawberries
100g assorted plastics such as wraps, etc…

What items can I easily replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?

What items would I be willing to give up if a plastic free alternative doesn’t exist?

What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?

What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?
We will start shopping in a different shop to reduce the plastic packaging of vegetables.

What one plastic item am I willing to give up or replace this week?

What other conclusions, if any, can I draw?

Great job! Not sure about soda cans in Belgium but here in the US soda cans are lined with BPA unfortunately. You can read more about it here:
