Beth Terry’s Bio:

After learning about the devastating effects of plastic pollution on the environment and human health, Oakland accountant Beth Terry began an experiment to see if she could live without buying any new plastic. Since then, she has reduced her plastic waste to less than 2% of the national average. That experiment turned into the popular blog MyPlasticFreeLife.com and new book Plastic-Free: How I Kicked the Plastic Habit and How You Can Too. A founding member of the Plastic Pollution Coalition, Terry gives presentations on plastic-free living and why, despite what some critics assert, our personal actions really do make a difference. Her work and life have been profiled in the award-winning film Bag It, as well as Susan Freinkel’s book, Plastic: A Toxic Love Story and Captain Charles Moore’s Plastic Ocean.

Plastic-Free Presentation Description

(Please edit to fit the specific event you are planning.)

Title:  Living Plastic-Free

What is your plastic footprint?  Take a walk through your house and notice how much plastic has infused our way of life.  From plastic-packaged food in the kitchen to toothbrushes and shampoo in the bathroom, from the carpet on the floor to the clothes in our closets, and all the gadgets we use each day, our world is full of plastic.

Although some plastics make our lives better, much of it is a problem — polluting our oceans and beaches and harming our health with toxic chemicals. But what can one person do to be part of the solution? Join us for a [morning / afternoon / evening] of inspiring stories and practical tips about ways to reduce plastic in your home and on the planet.  Author Beth Terry will share her journey from self-confessed plastic addict to empowered plastic-free activist and explain why we can’t just recycle our way out of this mess.  Beth Terry’s book, Plastic-Free: How I Kicked the Plastic Habit and How You Can Too, will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

Here is a sample PDF of my Power Point slides that go along with the presentation.    The presentation and slides can be tailored to your community and organization.
