Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

I'm not an avid traveler... but after we did our plastic-free food week... I traveled to California to visit a friend and some family and wanted to continue striving to use no foods in plastic. For the most recent trip, I flew from coastal NC to LA and then I took a train to San Diego before flying back to NC.... and I managed to do it without using any plastic. The trick is planning ahead and definitely rethinking. Of course, I had my reusable water bottle and tea mug (which I didn't use)... and for the flight I brought some trail mix and nuts that I bought bulk and a banana and a couple of apples. I did have to purchase dinner in the airport (I should've packed my own)... so I searched out pizza because it comes in a cardboard box and no utensils needed :) When I was visiting my friend, we made a stop at the grocery store (Whole Foods) to get some lunch... I filled up my paper container (the non-plastic lined ones) way too much so that I would have some the next day. On the train ride, I ate my leftover lunch and an apple... and snacked on my bulk foods. I did the same thing when I flew home ;)

Hope that helps... at least a little :)

Hey Jon, here's a silicone collapsible container. Is this what you mean? http://www.amazon.com/Sprouts-Eco-friendly-Collapsible-Silicone-Storage/dp/B002F9MUN4

I love my stainless steel travel mug. In fact, I use it instead of a water bottle. And now, it's just a habit to make sure I always have it with me. It just takes practice.
