Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

I have that plastic seal problem a lot, but there are some jars out there with metal lids and no seal. like I'm pretty sure Once Again peanut butter has no plastic seal, and most jelly jars don't have them. someone mentioned paper q-tips in a cardboard container in a blog I read, but I've not been able to find the post again so I don't know what brand it is. I've given up q-tips because of that post, so I either use a square of TP (which uses less material and has about the same surface area) or my towel.

For q-tips, I just use my towel when I'm drying off. And in the shower, I'll give the outside a quick rub down. Not supposed to use anything smaller than your pinky/elbow (depends on who you ask) inside your ear anyways :)

Good stuff though, wow! What a difference! I hope you can keep it up and show others that we can be sustainable and satisfied at the same time :)

Amanda, you are amazing. What a difference from your Week 1 tally. I am so proud of you and happy that you are reaching out to companies to ask them to change their packaging. The more of us they hear from, the better.

Yes, they do still make the old fashioned Q-tips. Of course, they come in a plastic package. My solution has been to just use fewer of them. I used to clean out my ears every day. Now, not as often. I use a wash cloth in the shower instead.
