Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

Wow! I'm totally impressed by your tiny plastic tally! I don't think that corn "plastic" is really plastic... in my book that doesn't count, although I suppose it is still garbage.

In terms of food for climbing, I think it can be a real challenge. I've done a bit of caving, and let me tell you, it's a challenge to find plastic-free finger food that you can eat when you're covered in cave slime! Pre-peeled hard boiled eggs wrapped in wax paper worked well for me, along with tortilla wraps in parchment paper.

Hi Ashley. I'll never understand why waiters/bartenders stick straws in plain glasses of water. Since I carry a glass straw with me, I've gotten in the habit of whipping it out and showing them when I ask for no straw. It makes an impression, I think, and they're more likely to remember not to stick one in my glass.

Do you have a farmers market nearby? I find I can avoid plastic stickers by buying produce from the farmers market instead of the grocery store.

Really great job this week! Thanks for taking the challenge!
