Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

Hi
I was having the same issue with meat. I now just purchase boneless. Of the 3 stores I shop, only one has butcher paper with no plastic lining. I get them to tear off several extra pieces for my deli products.
I think you are doing an amazing job. I totally could related to not touching the peppermints. I had seven people stay in my home while I was on vacation. They brought in tons of plastic, some of which is still around. I decided to use the products even if the dish washing detergent was scented, and the bottle was heavy with BPA. Tough choices but I really do admire you for sticking with your choice.

I fill out the firm online for Whole Foods and *usually* get a response. I try to keep it to one issue at a time.
What kind of meat scraps? Bones or gristle or fat? Maybe just toss them in a small bag - cereal bag or bread bag or frozen food. If it's bones - make soup!
About the travel mug, the Klean Kanteen insulated thermos/mug has an easy to fix #5 plastic lid that can be bought separately. Other than the lid, it's all metal.

Hi Amanda...I've found that some Whole Foods stores take the Brita Filters as part of their Gimme 5 partnership...I used to mail ours, but this has become a better option for us.

Hi Amanda.

Do you have friends with animals that could use the meat scraps? That's a good question. I don't think there is a better way to dispose of meat if you don't have a commercial compost operation that will take it, but I'll post your question to Facebook and see if anyone else has suggestions.

About not being hard enough on yourself, that's your call. There's definitely a balance between beating yourself up, which doesn't help, not not letting yourself off the hook with excuses. I'm glad you're exploring these questions.
