We are collecting our plastic trash for all of 2011. Read about our family on my Week 1 post.
Blog: It Starts With Me
Total items: 5
Total weight: .8 oz
We have recycling pick up at our home. We use our service mainly for paper and glass.
1 cotton swab container (#1)
2 milk jug caps (from reusable glass bottles)
2 rings from milk jug cap
What items can I replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?
I do make almond milk, but also choose to buy local dairy milk in glass bottles.
What items would I be willing to give up if a plastic free alternative doesn’t exist?
We’re on a week of no cotton swabs. (I actually don’t really use them… my husband does.) I’m looking to find an alternative for him.
What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?
Working on cutting back on milk. I don’t drink it, but use it for cooking. I have used homemade almond milk to replace milk in some recipes, but haven’t committed to that 100%. Also, my kids use milk for their granola. They very much dislike almond milk.
What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?
Exactly what I did this week… PLAN!!!! :)
What one plastic item am I willing to give up or replace this week?
What other conclusions, if any, can I draw?
I did it!! (happy dance!!!) I got back to focusing and planning!!! Thinking ahead goes such a long way…. now to focus on doing this for the next 39 weeks!!!
