Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

We have a store chain near us called "Lush". I've been getting their deoderant- it comes in a block with no packaging, except for perhaps some paper wrapping. In addition to deoderant, I get face wash there (take back my container to have them put more in), shampoo, and conditioner (in block form). Maybe there's a store near you!

Ellen, when I made the decision to go back to using toothpaste, after the baking soda didn't work for me, I decided to do the same thing you are -- use a lot less of it and make one tube last t long time. It's a good strategy for things you're not willing to give up.

I don't know where you can get pasta in your area, but out here, we have several delis and even a bulk market where you can bring your own container. Check around. See if there is an Italian deli in your area.
