Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

@Melissa, I am going to ask if they will. They normally dont sell to the public - but I am going to try to convince them since I know some of them there! Great idea, I will be on the watch for a growler now! thanks for the great tip!!

Since the beer is local, could you get a beer growler and refil that? Someone posted a cool review on the Klean Kanteen fb site about using their 64oz bottle for local beer.

Fonda, if you get berries from the farmers market, ask if you can dump them into your own container and hand the basket back to be reused. That's what we do.

thanks! I am glad to join in!

I have never been a frozen food eater, thanks to my Grandma. But when I moved to Norway, I started eating lots of french fries (which we now make ourselves). However, I am a sucker from frozen peas in the summer as a snack - I know I will be missing them!

We have a great selection of fruit, but not all of it is local. Much of it is shipped up from southern Europe. We have local apples, pears, strawberries, all berries really and oranges. The rest is brought in. However, fruit seems to never be in plastic unless you buy it in a pack of 6, for example. Vegetables on the other hand baffle me. Bell Peppers and Cucumbers are always! wrapped in plastic. Even sometimes when I buy them from the local farms. We are not sure why, and when I ask the people they are just like it is what we do. My local organic store is getting better after me talking/bugging them lots. We do struggle with the veggies coming without plastic, but if I shop wisely I can avoid the majority of it.

The winter is not much different. The only thing that really changes is that the berries, peaches, pears and plumbs are out of season and they dont often seem to import them (just listed) - Norwegians are very proud of there fruit, and rightfully so. It has been kept pure for so long and taste AMAZING!

I think that berry baskets are going to be a trouble for us this summer.

Yay, Fonda, I'm glad you decided to participate because you always leave useful comments. It's educational for me to see what plastic-free resources exist in other parts of the world.

Giving up the frozen foods was very hard for me. Where you live, what fresh produce is available? I would imagine that during the winter it would be hard to get fruits and veggies without plastic. Is that true?
