Plastic Challenge: Laura A., Week 14

plastic_week14

Is there a plastic-free alternative to Band-Aids?

Name: Laura A.

Week: 14

Location: Maine, United States

Personal Info:

Total items: 8

Total weight: 0.5 oz.

Items: Recyclable
none

Items: Nonrecyclable
4 produce tags
Band-Aid peel strips
seal to glass bottle
pill packet
walnut bag

What items can I easily replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?
I’ve been buying walnuts in bulk- this bag is just a leftover.

What items would I be willing to give up if a plastic free alternative doesn’t exist?
none this week

What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?
I’m not sure about the Band-Aids- there is probably an alternative but we have a whole drawer of first aid stuff that we won’t use up any time soon so it will be a while before I find out.

What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?
We are getting into farmer’s market season so I should be able to start buying produce without plastic tags.

What one plastic item am I willing to give up or replace this week?

What other conclusions, if any, can I draw?
My lowest weight and numbers yet!
