Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

I use a pencil to put my hair up, too! Had never met anyone else who does.

I also have several beautiful dichroic glass hair clips from this glass artist that I just love using. Pictured at the upper left of her page, they are about 4 inches long and 3/4 inch wide. Reasonably priced at her shows. I don't see an Etsy store, so you'd have to contact her directly.

Mary Katherine, I don't know of any plastic-free hair elastics, but could a wood hair stick like these work for you? Is your hair long enough?

That's what I started using, but I have to confess that my sister said it made me look like an old lady. Sometimes I just put my hair back with a pencil.
