List of plastic items REFUSED this week. (Yay!)
Bag and straw at Subway
Grocery bags
Total items collected: 25
Total weight: 5.1 ounces
Items: Recyclable
Curbside recyclable
2 pop bottles
Other recyclable
Supplement bottle
Small ziploc bag – I think this is from a bracelet I got for Christmas
AAA card expired from last year
Items: Nonrecyclable
Dandies vegan marshmallows package
TaterWare 2 knifes and a fork from breakfasts at the hotel – made of potatoes, which I’d undoubtedly say is better than corn-based plastics. I think I’ll put them in my compost, see how they really biodegrade.
Another plastic fork – it was in my bag from the trip, but I’m not sure exactly when or where
4 string cheese wrappers
2 plastic bags I borrowed from my mom – so she was reusing them, I reused them, and from here I’ll use them for garbage.
Tyvek packet of silica gel from supplement bottle
Envelope window
Frozen pizza wrapper
Subway drink lid
5 lint roller sheets
What items can I easily replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?
What items would I be willing to give up if a plastic free alternative doesn’t exist?
Frozen pizza – I just made a bunch of spaghetti to freeze, which I find to be a good substitute
Plastic pop bottles and string cheese are an anomaly
What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?
What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?
What one plastic item am I willing to give up or replace this week?
What other conclusions, if any, can I draw?
