Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

I also don't shower daily, both in an effort to conserve water and cause my hair doesn't handle daily showers well. However, I do still wash my face, hands and feet before bed. And if I notice that I'm smelly during the day I just use my handkerchief with a little soap and water. (I also dry with the unused portion of the handkerchief. It's surprisingly fast, easy and effective. The natural deodorants weren't working for me and I've found that I prefer the feeling of just being clean. Might be a little extreme for some, but worth trying out.

Here is an article about bear-proof composting in BC. Looks pretty intense. I'm not sure if the link will work but you could search the city farmer. http://www.cityfarmer.info/2009/10/08/bear-proof-compost-bin/

Wow, very impressive that you make your own cheese! I used to work at a fabric store and we had cheese cloth on a bolt, which was cut just like other fabrics (so no plastic), but I'm not sure if you have access in your area. We winter compost outside and even though it doesn't actually compost during the winter and starts to build up, it does it's thing come spring. The issue would be the bears. It would, I guess, have to be in a bear-proof structure, which probably is not reasonable. Here the only critters are maybe mice and squirrels, and I would rather have them in the compost pile, than the house. I'm thinking a place like Mother Earth News might have some suggestions.
My 2 cents on deodorant: I love homemade baking soda, cornstarch and coconut oil deodorant, with a little essential oil. I ride my bike everywhere and never seem smelly when I use it (which had been a problem with other natural deodorant). Best of luck!
