Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

We use mason jars for nearly all of our bulk storage: dried fruits, rice, dried beans. lentils & nuts. Partial cans of coconut milk go into a jam jar in the fridge when we need, but the containers I'm trying to replace the lids for are the big guns. The 7 cup containers that come to the fish monger with me, and hold a dinners worth of chili in the freezer until we need it on a cold day.

I know it seems ridiculous to ask for help replacing my plastic lids within a community of people aiming to reduce their plastic consumption, but with an overall environmental impact frame of mind, it would be better to replace just the lids rather than the whole container, no?

Thank you again Beth for your constant support as we all go forth in the direction of a truly plastic free lifestyle. <3

Hey Kristin, the Customer Service page says, "Anchor Online currently ships to the 50 States and we are working through the process of allowing shipments to Canada for early 2011!" Why not call and find out if there is currently a way to get these in Canada. Maybe you can place an order over the phone. Or maybe they can refer you to a different site.

That said, since you're in Canada, if you want new containers, check out the offerings at lifewithoutplastic.com. They are a Canadian company and have both glass and stainless steel containers with stainless steel lids.

Also -- mason jars are awesome for food storage. We reuse spaghetti sauce jars.

The pre-owned fridge DEFINITELY counts!
