Plastic Challenge: Pat Clancy, Week 3

Location:, Illinois, United States
Name: Pat Clancy
Week: 3
List of plastic items REFUSED this week. (Yay!)
Plastic grocery bags
Plastic produce bags
Total items collected: 27
Total weight:
Items: Recyclable
2 trays from guacamole #1
1 tortilla bag
1 plastic cap
1 hummus container (#5) and lid (#4)
1 lid from paper oatmeal box (#4)
Items: Nonrecyclable
1 used-up pen
14 vitamin packets
1 blister pack (probiotic)
1 plastic film cover from quacamole
1 bag from dehydrated tomatoes
1 plastic package from fish
1 closer tab
1 plastic tag from kale
1 seal strip from glass bottle of dressing
1 lid from bottled water
What items can I easily replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?
Fish can be bought unpackaged
Guacamole can be made from scratch (this was purchased for a party to save time)
Dressing can be made from scratch
What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?
Vitamins
dental floss
I have water delivered in 5-gal. bottles which are reused, but there is a plastic cap on each.
What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?
I am becoming more conscious of packaging; brought plastic bags to reuse for produce; will shop at farmer’s market when season begins. I bought oatmeal in bulk, brought a bag to reuse and then transferred to a jar when I got home.
What other conclusions, if any, can I draw?
