Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

Hi Dale. Welcome to the challenge and congratulations for giving up bottled water.

I agree that many people think that by recycling, they have done their part. I hear that argument all the time. But recycling is not the final solution to the plastic problem, as I'm sure you now know.

I have some suggestions for you. There are reusable produce bags you can bring with you to the store to avoid disposable plastic ones. Check out the ChicoBag Produce Stand bags, as just one example. http://www.chicobag.com/category/produce-stand

There is a brand of yogurt available in your area that comes in returnable glass jars or ceramic pots. St. Benoit. Check out this page and click on "Central Coast" if you are located in the Santa Cruz area to find out what stores carry it near you.
