Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

Hi Sandy,

I think it's easy to get overwhelmed when it comes to plastic. It's impossible to avoid! Stories like yours make me think about how much plastic is a bigger problem than each of us. I won't be able to stop accumulating plastic, no matter how hard I try, because it is also an industry-wide and society-wide problem. Of course it's always fun trying. =)

I think Beth's comment is right on. Often I have to change the way I do things in order to reduce plastic. You have to pick and choose your battles for that, though, because sometimes habits and comfort really do take a lot of effort to overcome. One small change at a time.

Thanks for spreading information to your friends! I think my plastic-avoiding ways have influenced my friends and family too. At least they think about their purchases more. That's great.

Hi Sandy. Welcome back! Sorry you lost hope for a while, but I'm glad you're rejuvenated again. What solutions have you come up with for lunch items? My solution was to rethink what lunch means for me in the first place. There are lots of other foods besides deli meats and cheeses for sandwiches. Let me know if you want some ideas. (Of course, most of my ideas are veggie, these days.)
