Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

I'm pretty sure that my local Whole Foods will let me bring my own bags for the bulk section. I just need to acquire them. I'll look for the Better than Bullion container after I finish the 8 tetra paks I have here at the house right now. Looks like something good to try though!

I also checked Blue Monkey's website and their cans do not contain BPA so we might be good there. Mom has an electrolyte imbalance and coconut water is very high in potassium.

Hi Genevieve. How are you feeling at this point in the challenge? I have some suggestions for you if you'd like them.

1) I wouldn't switch to coconut water in a can because, sadly, the can could actually be worse than the plastic bottle. Metal cans are lined with bisphenol-a, a type of plastic that has been shown to disrupt hormones and is linked to all kinds of health problems. If coconut water is something that your mom really enjoys, maybe focus on another area for deplasticking first and come back to that one later.

2) Can you bring your own reusable bags to the bulk section instead of taking new plastic ones? (There are lots of cloth bulk bag options.) And if the store doesn't allow you to bring your own bags, can you just keep reusing the plastic ones you already have?

3) Here is my personal solution to the chicken broth problem. Is this product available where you live? http://myplasticfreelife.com/2011/01/quick-and-almost-plastic-free-broth-soup-base-tip/
