Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

Rose, congratulations on all your efforts to research plastic-free alternatives in your area. From experience, I've found that the initial research is what takes the most time. After that, it becomes a matter of habit and some pre-planning and doesn't have to take much time at all. As for the toothbrush question, that's a tough call. I think each of us has to figure out our priorities when there are conflicting environmental impacts and make the choice that seems right based on the information. To me, the most important thing is to think it through and make a conscious decision. There isn't always a perfect right choice.
