plastic1

How can I eat salads and cereal without plastic?

Location:Boise, Idaho, United States

Name: Jeana Harris

Week: 1

Personal Info:

I’m a 19 year old female with one roommate. I’m vegetarian and a feminist.

List of plastic items REFUSED this week. (Yay!)

grocery bags

Total items collected: 28

Total weight:

Items: Recyclable
5 plastic utensils, plastic bags, milk bottle, soda can holder thing, cereal bag, ziplock bags.

Items: Nonrecyclable
motor oil containers, lids and straws, coffee cups, styrofoam cup, soy sauce packet,

What items can I easily replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?
Coffee cups, plastic forks and spoons

What items would I be willing to give up if a plastic free alternative doesn’t exist?
individual portioned sodas, milk, water etc.

What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?
motor oil containers

What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?
I need to start carrying my own reusable coffee cups, forks and spoons with me when I go out. I should refuse to put fruit and veggies in separate produce bags. I should store cheese and other items in containers instead of ziplocks.

What one plastic item am I willing to give up or replace this week?
I am willing to refuse produce bags.

What other conclusions, if any, can I draw?
