Location:Charlottesville, Virginia, United States
Name: Eve Stavros
I recently retired early and moved from Florida to Virginia, near the Blue Ridge Mountains. I’m fortunate to live in the basement apartment of my best friend’s beautiful log home, where I have time to garden, read, cook, play with my cat, Armani, and SLEEP! Living on a budget, but enjoying some travel – and most of all the time to enjoy the slow life.
List of plastic items REFUSED this week. (Yay!)
water bottles, plastic cutlery
Total items collected: 22
Total weight: .7 oz collected
Not collected/shown – Styrofoam soup cups (3), paper coffee cup toppers (3), yogurt container (1),
Packaging tape and plastic wrap from online book swap (2), envelope window (2), milk bottle ring (1), blossom tea wrapper (2), sausage wrapper (1), wine bottle seal (1), plastic window from pasta machine, catsup packets (3), straws (2)
What items can I easily replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?
What items would I be willing to give up if a plastic free alternative doesn’t exist?
blossom teas – these were a gift and I’m using them up
What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?
What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?
Be more pro-active about bringing my to-go items with me when I travel!!!
What one plastic item am I willing to give up or replace this week?
What other conclusions, if any, can I draw?
It is really hard to be plastic-free on vacation when you travel with someone else and I’m willing to sacrifice my consumption to let the other person have a good time. It’s about setting the priorities!
