Take the challenge. Collect your plastic waste (both recyclable and non) for one week or more. Then photograph, tally, and post it here. What can we learn about our habits and lifestyles by examining our waste? And what changes can each of us make to leave the planet a little less trashy?

Thanks, Beth. I haven't finished your book yet. So I'll definitely look at the section on trash bags(book & blog) and pet waste. I'll definitely consider taking our own containers. There are certain restaurants where we are regulars so I'll start there.

Thanks, Cynthia

Hi Cynthia. Welcome. You are the first participant from Louisiana!

The two most common questions I get are what to do about trash bags and what to do about pet waste. I wrote a post to address the trash bag question, and even included a whole section in my book. Here's the post. I hope it's helpful. I just updated it tonight: http://myplasticfreelife.com/2010/02/collecting-garbage-without-plastic-trash-bags/

When dining out, how about bringing your own reusable containers with you in case there are leftovers to bring home? I like to bring a stainless steel container. This way, you can still have your leftovers but avoid the disposable packaging.
