Plastic Challenge: Colleen T, Week 1

Any and all suggestions appreciated
Location:Glen Ellyn, Illinois, United States
Name: Colleen T
Week: 1
Personal Info:
Married female with no children. I work 2 part-time jobs away from home after having been laid-off 3 years ago. While I’ve always tried to be “green” it is only since I read the Plastic Free Life that I realized I can do alot more
The picture I’m posting has not only plastic from normal day to day living but I cleaned out a spice cabinet. Talk about guilt! What a waste. I saved most of the glass containers to use for storage but the plastic has gone into recycling. From now on spices will be purchased in glass or bulk using my own containers.
List of plastic items REFUSED this week. (Yay!)
Several plastic bags
Total items collected: 38
Total weight:
Items: Recyclable
3 pill bottles
30 spice bottles
4 plastic bottles
1 meat tray
Items: Nonrecyclable
NONE
What items can I easily replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?
What items would I be willing to give up if a plastic free alternative doesn’t exist?
What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?
What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?
What one plastic item am I willing to give up or replace this week?
What other conclusions, if any, can I draw?
