I am interested in making food courts in malls install dishwashers so that they can eliminate plastic flatware and disposable plates.
At the end of this post is my mail to Tyson's corner mall Marketing manager. It has been a week and I have no response from her.
I would like to gather support from locals to talk to the manager and making sure that they install it. Please reply to this post so that we can do something!
As you might already know, the three Rs in Reduce, Reuse and Recycle are in the order of their impact and importance.
Reduce the amount and toxicity of trash you throw away and reuse containers and products.
We can reduce the trash we throw away by reusing stainless steel flatware and ceramic plates. We can follow Ikea model where customers return their trays to designated spots. This necessitates employing a person to load the dishwasher, but it doesn't have to be creating a new job, the person who picks up trash in food court currently can do the job of dishwasher loader. So implementing this is not going to be expensive.
Please let me know your thoughts. You alone can make a huge difference, please consider implementing this.
Hi Chandana. It would be useful if you interviewed someone from IKEA to find out exactly how they do it, how many customers they have and dishes each day, what the cost is in terms of energy and water usage, what the cost of a commercial washer would be, etc. Also find out how many people eat in the food court every day. Is it similar to IKEA's numbers? It's good to be able to point to a system already in existence that works and to be able to anticipate Tyson's arguments and be ready with answers.
