I might not be very popular for this topic, but that’s ok with me. I am wondering if anyone else aside from me considers the global effects smoking has on our environment. Not simply second-hand smoke, but cigarette butts, the plastic which wraps cigarette cartons, the filters which are generally made of plastic, plus the pollution from the cigarettes, themselves, etc. The cigarette butts get blown into the oceans during storms and such and can leach into soil and drinking water. Birds and fish can pick them up, thinking they are food and die of Cancer. Birds have very sensitive systems. I know this from having owned birds, for years. It does not thrill me to think that I may be consuming fish which has eaten plastic or cigarette butts. I do not smoke and never have, but I have done research on all of this. That’s not to mention all the dangers smoking poses to a person’s health, from lung to kidney, to bladder Cancer. After having recently lost my beloved boyfriend to bladder Cancer caused by his smoking for 25 years, prior to having met me, I am very passionate about this topic. As far as I am concerned, giving up smoking is among the top 101 things folks can do to reduce their plastic consumption.
