I am just starting to eliminate plastic from my life and I am having alot of difficulty with regards to food shopping. I take my reusable bags to the store every time I go shopping. My problem is that I live in a very small town in Newfoundland, Canada. There are 2 grocery stores that are local to me. These stores have no bulk section and almost all of the food that I need to buy is pre packaged in plastic. Even produce that doesn’t need to be packaged. I try and buy everything I can plastic free. I am wondering if anyone has an advice that could help, thanks :)
Hi. Do you have any farmers markets for at least part of the year? Or would you consider planting a few things yourself? It’s not always possible to go completely plastic-free, but if you can find plastic-free produce during the summer, that’s a step. Some fresh produce can be frozen or canned (in glass) for the winter. Also, there might be recipes you could try for foods you normally purchase in plastic. For example, making homemade bread or tortillas. Decide on a few foods to start with… don’t try to do it all at once. Are there specific foods you could ask about in this forum?
