Hi, I was wondering if anyone out there had ideas for how to obtain plastic-free protein supplements. I’m trying to be a low-plastic-using vegan, while also being somewhat serious about weightlifting. On the latter 2 points, I’ve found it impossible to get enough protein for appropriate strength-training macro-nutrient targets while eating vegan without using some powders (unless I eat a ridiculous amount of calories because beans, etc all come with a ton of carbs too). Fortunately there are some pretty great powders out there, but they’re pretty much all encased in plastic. So unless I give up one of the 3 things above I’m struggling to figure out how to make it work. Does anyone have any ideas

I’ve tried contacting the companies and am following up, but it’d be helpful to point them to some examples of things others have already started doing.

I know it’s a tough one, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks1

The best that I’ve found so far is ordering the powders in bulk. They come in large bags so it’s less plastic than usual. Websites like truenutrition.com, and http://www.znaturalfoods.com sell them like that.

Someone else has suggested eating whole foods, seitan, tofu, etc. : http://www.nowastebee.com/blog…..r-everyone

Personally, I can’t hit my macros without the help of powders. I definitely feel the repercussions of not eating enough protein when I tried going without it, both in energy and recovery.
