Plastic Challenge: Ellen and Pedro, Week 3

Location:, Belgium

Name: Ellen and Pedro

Week: 3

Personal Info:

Week 3 – holidays at family’s house and no control over the plastic purchases :-/.

Although we didn’t do the shopping this week we tried to maintain our pledge to use less plastic. Normally we drink at least 2 bottles of water per day and throw away the plastic bottle, now we reused bottles (until they were silently replaced by our hosts).
We did our part by cleaning the plastic we found on the beach every day. Hopefully it made some people think to take their garbage to the trash before they left.

Ellen and Pedro’s personal blog:

List of plastic items REFUSED this week. (Yay!)
Many plastic water bottles, we normally used at least 2 per person a day (blush)
Plastic bottle of cola at the airport

Total items collected: 9

Total weight:

Items: Recyclable
sandwich wrap from sandwich on the plane
6 plastic water bottles

Items: Nonrecyclable
2 sandwich wraps at the airport

What items can I easily replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?
We could take lunch from home to eat on the plane and at the airport.
Next holidays we’ll take a reusable water container

What items would I be willing to give up if a plastic free alternative doesn’t exist?

What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?

What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?

What one plastic item am I willing to give up or replace this week?

What other conclusions, if any, can I draw?
Because we checked the beach for plastic every day we did notice the huge amount of semi-degraded plastic stuck in the seaweed. A good reminder why were are taking this challenge!
