Total items: 17

Total weight:

Items: Recyclable
1 Plastic bag from grapes (#4)

Items: Nonrecyclable
1 milk carton
2 tab/cap from milk carton
1 wrapping (from water filters)
2 filters (for water)
1 produce twist
1 gardein package
2 contact lens packages
2 heartworm packages
4 films from tattoos

What items can I easily replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?

What items would I be willing to give up if a plastic free alternative doesn’t exist?

What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?
Contact lenses, dogs heartworm prevention.

What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?
Grapes: I hadn’t bought grapes since last summer because I can’t find them without plastic. My kids absolutely LOVE grapes. So, I’ve come up with the solution that the only time that I will buy grapes is when they are USA grown AND organic. It’s a short window to have the grapes, so the grapes will be more appreciated and not get wasted :)

What one plastic item am I willing to give up or replace this week?

What other conclusions, if any, can I draw?
I wish the water filters could just be replaced instead of throwing out the entire housing for the filters… such a waste. I’m happy the filters lasted 6 months, but I still hate throwing them away. There needs to be design standards set to reduce the amount of waste that a product creates.

This is my half way point for the year. 26 straight weeks of collecting our plastic waste… I don’t really have any brilliant conclusions.

See you next week :)
