Plastic Challenge: Eve Stavros, Week 12

DSCN2604

Location:Monte Porzio Catone, Italy (for now), Virginia, United States

Name: Eve Stavros

Week: 12

Personal Info:

On vacation for 3 weeks in Italy, near Rome, and attempting to travel plastic-free.

List of plastic items REFUSED this week. (Yay!)
Didn´t have to refuse a single straw – they don´t hand them out in Italy!!! But I did have to refuse 5 tiny plastic spoons they pass out with the gelato (ice cream) in CONES!!! Yeah, I´m eating a LOT of gelato!

Total items collected: 5

Total weight:

Items: Recyclable
1 yogurt container, 1 water bottle, 1 coke bottle, 1 bread wrapper, 1 biodegradable bag

Items: Nonrecyclable
none

What items can I easily replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?

What items would I be willing to give up if a plastic free alternative doesn’t exist?

What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?

What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?

What one plastic item am I willing to give up or replace this week?
The bread wrapper & yogurt container were items I ate at my friend´s house. I make my own, plastic-free at home. The coke & water bottles were out of desperation one hot day in Rome when I couldn´t refill the water bottle I brought from home.

What other conclusions, if any, can I draw?
Traveling plastic-free is easier in Italy, except maybe for finding places outside of the home for refilling my water bottle.
