We are a family of four, with two teenage boys. Needless to say, we go through an embarrassing amount of stuff.
List of plastic items REFUSED this week. (Yay!)
I never (ok, hardly ever) use plastic bags at stores. I bring my own or simply carry the merchandise out if I don’t have mine in the car.
I don’t frequent coffee shops that use styrofoam cups.
I don’t put my loose fruit or veggies in the little plastic bags………….really, does it matter if they roll around in your bigger bag?
Total items collected: 41
In Nova Scotia we recycle…. a lot.
Our provincial government has set a goal to reach a disposal rate of 300 kg per person, per year by 2015. That’s 1/4 less waste than we generate today.
Every change makes a difference.
What items can I easily replace with plastic free or less plastic alternatives?
I use wax paper instead of saran wrap.
What items would I be willing to give up if a plastic free alternative doesn’t exist?
What items are essential and seem to have no plastic-free alternative?
What lifestyle change(s) might be necessary to reduce my plastic consumption?
Washing more dishes when using glass containers instead of plastic ones. Thought this would be inconvenient…..it’s not.
What one plastic item am I willing to give up or replace this week?
What other conclusions, if any, can I draw?
